The third and final episode of INTERRUPCIÓN this year! The Mexican trio Karen y Los Remedios have been touring around the world with their self-created type of dark cumbia, and will now make their Dutch debut right here at WORM. They will be joined by Concepción Huerta, also from Mexico, while La Pinche Tefi from Colombia will be in charge of the turntables. There's a small vinyl market through the label Discos Elgozo, and Mitze Apocalipze will once again be your host. It promises to be a mesmerizing end to the 2025 INTERRUPCIÓN-trilogy...

El trío mexicano Karen y Los Remedios ha estado de gira por todo el mundo con su propio estilo de cumbia oscura, y ahora debuta en Holanda aquí mismo en WORM. Les acompañará Concepción Huerta, también de México, mientras que La Pinche Tefi, de Bogotá, se va a encargar del tornamesas. Tendremos un pequeño mercado de vinilos a través del sello Discos Elgozo, y una vez más, Mitze Apocalipze será su anfitrióna. Este cierre de la trilogía INTERRUPCIÓN del 2025 luce prometedor!

EN | From Mexico we welcome Karen y Los Remedios, ready to hypnotize you with their pitched-down rebajada cumbias, blended with the pulsating spectral voice of Karen that carries vulnerability, contemplation and longing. Chameleon-like foundations explore cumbia in its many forms, crossing the American continent with norteño airs, pitched-down rebajados, psychedelia and even traditional Peruvian music, taking in ballads, Afro-Latin percussion, reggaeton and the more electronic sounds of dream-pop, trip hop and downtempo. A mystical, motley mixture, the ideal soundscape to fight the voices in your head while you melt on the dancefloor and scare away the ghosts of your past, your body surrendering to the dance. The project is led by Ana Karen G Barajas, an artist and arts and social sciences researcher born in Mexico City and raised in Guanajuato, in the company of Mexico City native Jonathan Muriel (Jiony) and guitarist Guillermo Berbeyer (Z.A.M.P.A.), who after many years on Mexico’s alternative scene decided to get together and bring this existential cumbia project to life. The group released their first long play Silencio in 2023 and earlier this year followed a selection of remixes from the album.

ES | Desde México les damos la bienvenida a Karen y Los Remedios, listos para hipnotizarte con sus cumbias rebajadas, fusionadas con la voz divina y espectral de Karen, que transmite sensualidad y contemplación. Sus bases camaleónicas exploran la cumbia en sus múltiples formas, cruzando el continente americano con aires norteños, ritmos rebajados, psicodelia e incluso música tradicional peruana, abarcando baladas, percusión afrolatina, reggaetón y sonidos electrónicos del dream-pop, trip hop y downtempo. Una mezcla mística y heterogénea, el paisaje sonoro ideal para combatir los fantasmas de tu cabeza mientras te sientes sexy y rindes tu cuerpo al baile. El proyecto está liderado por Ana Karen G Barajas, artista e investigadora en artes y ciencias sociales, nacida en Ciudad de México y criada en Guanajuato, en compañía del músico electrónico Jonathan Muriel (Jiony) y el guitarrista Guillermo Berbeyer (Z.A.M.P.A.), quienes tras muchos años en la escena alternativa mexicana decidieron unirse y dar vida a este proyecto de cumbia existencial. En 2023 el grupo lanzó su primer LP, Silencio, y a principios de este año publicó una selección de remixes del álbum.

EN | We were able to see Concepción Huerta last year at the Rewire Festival in The Hague, where she made a lasting impression that resulted in us inviting her to perform here in Rotterdam. The work of Concepción Huerta is rooted in drone, musique concrète, and hauntingly visceral textures, thereby evoking powerful image-driven narratives. In May this year she released El Sol de Los Muertos, a magnificent album released on cassette, that invites to reflect, as a historical reexamination. Huerta’s sonic vision evokes an image of open veins. Not human veins, but those of the earth itself, the open veins of Latin America. The album is, in a way, a reflection on dispossession, resource extraction, and colonization. But beyond being a historical commentary—one that some might relegate to a forgotten past—it is also a reminder of the present, of how these practices persist in contemporary, postmodern guises.

ES | Tuvimos el chance de ver a Concepción Huerta el año pasado en el Festival Rewire de La Haya, donde dejó una huella imborrable que nos llevó a invitarla a tocar aquí en Róterdam. La obra de Concepción Huerta se basa en el drone, la música concreta y texturas viscerales, evocando así poderosas narrativas basadas en imágenes. En mayo de este año, lanzó El Sol de Los Muertos, un álbum en casete que invita a la reflexión, a modo de reexaminación histórica. La visión sonora de Huerta evoca una imagen de venas abiertas. No venas humanas, sino las de la tierra misma, las venas abiertas de Latinoamérica. El álbum es, en cierto modo, una reflexión sobre el despojo, la extracción de recursos y la colonización. Pero más allá de ser un comentario histórico —uno que algunos podrían relegar a un pasado olvidado—, también es un recordatorio del presente, de cómo estas prácticas persisten en formas contemporáneas y posmodernas.

EN | La Pinche Tefi is the DJ alias of Bogotá-based visual artist and photographer Stephanie Ascanio. Her sets, played mostly on 45 rpm vinyl, are built for dancing—connecting Latin records from different decades and scenes into a playful, high-energy flow. Expect cumbia, salsa, boogaloo, merengue, and plenty of surprises, always leaning into rhythm and joy rather than purism or nostalgia.

She’s taken her collection to clubs across Europe and the US, moving dancers with sets that feel spontaneous, sweaty, and full of personality. La Pinche Tefi doesn’t aim to educate or impress—she’s there to keep the party going, record by record, beat by beat.

ES | La Pinche Tefi es el proyecto como DJ de Stephanie Ascanio, artista visual y fotógrafa nacida en Bogotá. Sus sets vinileros a 45rpm están pensados para bailar: una selección intensa y sabrosa de cumbia, salsa, boogaloo, merengue y joyas escondidas de distintas épocas y rincones del universo latino. Nada de purismos ni nostalgia, lo suyo es el ritmo y el goce.

Ha puesto a bailar clubes en varias ciudades de Europa y Estados Unidos con sesiones cargadas de energía, espontaneidad y mucha calle. La Pinche Tefi no viene a aleccionar ni a lucirse: viene a prender la pista, disco tras disco.

EN | We're happy to share our passion for vinyl with our visitors. That's why we've invited the label Discos Elgozo to showcase their releases. Based in Austria, the label draws inspiration from the music of the Colombian Caribbean, and kicked off their existence with a series of singles by female-led groups celebrating ancestral traditions through a lens of queer feminist expression. Their latest release was a 7"-single by the legendary Petrona Martinez, which will of course be on sale during the event! Remember: 'el disco es cultura'.
